Kadmbuttu -Rice Dumplings

kadumbuttuKadumbuttu or steamed rice dumpling is a very popular food in Coorg. Kadumbuttu goes well with Pandi Curry or Chicken curry and is prepared on all major occasions in Coorg including wedding.
Ingredients:
250 gms of fine rice rava , 750 ml water, Coconut grated: 2 tbsp, ¼ teaspoon sugar and ½ teaspoon salt.

Kadumbuttu Recipe

Wash the rice and cook it with above said water measure on medium flame. Add cocunut, salt and water and stir. Stir untill the mixture becomes a soft dough. Turn off the flame and cover the container for 5 minutes. In a small bowl of water add 2 drops of cooking or coconut oil. Dip finger into this mixture and rub onto both palms. Take approximately 1 tablespoon of the hot dough and roll it to make round shaped ball. Do the same with the rest of the dough. Place the dough balls in a vessel and cover with muslin cloth and steam for 20-25 minutes. That’s it and your Kadumbuttu is ready. You can make about 20-25 Kadumbuttus. Serve Kadumbuttu with Pandi Curry or Chicken curry and it tastes best. Vegetarians can have kadumbuttus with chutney.
