Suntikoppa

Suntikoppa is a small town located in between Kushalnagar and Madikeri on the state highway. Suntikoppa is famous for a lot of things like its grand Ayudha Pooja celebrations, Dance Mela (an annual dance competition organized by the Driver’s Association of Suntikoppa), Chiklihole Dam, Muthappa fest etc. Apart from these things Suntikoppa is also very famous for its football fad. Football is so famous in this town that Suntikoppa is nick named as the Kolkata of Coorg.

The annual D Shivappa Memorial Football Gold Cup Tournament attracts a lot of football teams from all over India who participate in the tournament to take home the legendary Gold Cup Trophy.  The tournament is held at the Govt School Sports ground and football clubs from all over Karnataka participate in the event. The tournament is usually held during April and May.

The Blue Boy’s Youth Football Club popularly known as BBC is one of the oldest Football Club in Coorg. The BBYC was started in the year 1978 and since its inception its reputation has been reaching beyond state boundaries. City United is another football club that is becoming popular day by day in Suntikoppa.

There are lots of tourist spots around Suntikoppa. Chiklihole Dam, Hardoor Bridge, Hattihole etc, are few of them.

India’s popular cricketer Robin Uthappa, Tennis Star Rohan Bopanna etc, hail from Suntikoppa.
