Appaiah Gowda’s Statue to be placed in Madikeri

The statue of one of Coorg’s brave soldier Appaiah Gowda will be unveiled on Jan 2nd by CM Sadananda Gowda in Madikeri.

Subedar Appaih Gowda’s statue mounted on a horse and holding a sword is made of bronze at a cost of 13 Lakhs.

Appaiah Gowda served   Chikkavirarajendra the last King of Coorg as a Subedar. When the King was captured by the then British Appaiah Gowda formed and lead a team of soldiers and gave strong resistance to the British but later he was also captured and hung in front of Madikeri Fort on October 31 1837.
